Leveraging AI Skills for Design
A skill is a saved way of working, not a magic button.
What you'll be able to do
- Define what an AI design skill is and what it is not
- Choose the right skill for a repeatable design task
- Configure a skill with your brand system so its output stays on-brand
A skill is a saved way of working
An AI skill is a packaged, repeatable way of doing one job: a description of what it does and when to use it, plus the steps, inputs, and guardrails the assistant follows. It is not a magic button and it is not "smarter AI." It is your method, written down once, so the studio assistant runs it the same way every time. You stay the art director. The skill carries the repetitive structure; you bring the taste and the final call.
Choosing and configuring the right one
Pick a skill the way you pick a tool: by the job. A skill that "builds a DESIGN.md" is for systematizing a brand; a skill that "critiques a UI" is for the refine loop. The wrong skill produces confident, off-target work. Then configure it: feed it your DESIGN.md so its output inherits your principles and tokens. A configured skill stops being generic and starts sounding like your studio. The same rule from Level 1 holds, the quality of what comes out is the quality of the context you put in.
